Tonight at Isleta Resort & Casino: In what was her most exciting
performance to date, Albuquerque's Holly Holm
(23-1-3, 6 KOs) outboxed--but did not outslug France's
Myriam Lamare (16-3, 9 KOs) over ten rounds to retain
her WIBA welterweight belt. Holm built up an early lead, landing
crisp rights on her foe, but Lamare came alive in the late
rounds, bombing Holm with big rights and looping lefts. The
scorecards read 96-94, 98-92 and 97-93 for Holm. NewMexicoBoxing
had it 96-94. In the scheduled eight-round co-main, Bloomfield
jr. middle Joe "Ironman" Gomez (16-1-1, 8 KOs)
stopped Jose Luis Cruz (12-15-3, 4 KOs), of San
Diego, Calif., at 2:35 of round four. On the undercard: In a
battle of debuting super bantams, Raymond "Hollywood"
Montes (1-0, 1 KO) stopped Randy "Savage"
Arrellin (0-1) at 2:09 of round one; in a slugfest, jr.
middleweight Carlos "El Gallo" Sanchez (2-0)
won a unanimous decision over debuting Mike Rodriguez
(0-1) with scores of 40-36 twice and 39-37;
welterweight Josh "Pitbull" Torres (3-1, 2 KOs)
was impressive in his fourth round (1:11) stoppage of El Paso's
Cornelius "Hard Times" Shuler (1-4). |
