Mathis & Holm Go To War On Great Card From Albuquerque
By: Austin Killeen, Ringside
The much
anticipated matchup for the WBAN and IBA welterweight
championship, more than lived up to its prefight hype. Defending
champ Holly Holm (145 1/2) and hard hitting challenger Anne
Sophie Mathis (145 1/2) didn’t disappoint the sellout crowd at
Route 66 Casino. Mathis shocked the home town favorite, knocking
out Holm at 1:38 of the seventh round. This caped a night of
excellent bouts by Fresquez Productions, in which every match
advertised, actually took place. I’ve been following the sport
for over 60 years and can count on the fingers of one hand how
many times that has occurred...Full

If you wanted to get
just a teaser about how Anne Sophie Mathis is planning to usurp
the pound-for-pound tiara from the brow of Holly Holm Friday
night in Albuquerque, today’s final press conference was not the
place to find out. Mathis’ lips were sealed. “Do you have a game
plan for dealing with Holm’s footwork and speed?” was the
question, probably one she’s been bombarded with since arriving
in the Duke City two weeks ago....Full

There was no news conference. If
there was even an announcement, it got little notice. But
look what’s happened since. n the spring of 2004, with the
approval of manager Mike Winkeljohn, promoter Lenny Fresquez
quietly signed 22-year-old boxer Holly Holm to a contract.
Today, some 7 1/2 years later, Holm, Winkeljohn and Fresquez are
still a team – an amazingly successful one. Full Story

November 15, 2011
Cristian Manuel Cabral, was born in Zacatecas,
Mexico, on July 26, 1993. His family immigrated to Albuquerque,
New Mexico, after his birth, and Albuquerque is where he calls
home. Cabral started boxing at age twelve with the Van Buren
Warrior Boxing Team under the tutelage of head coach Ray Zamora.
Cabral was the first fighter to sign up for the warrior team. In
the beginning, Cabral had a rocky start losing his first three
fights in the amateurs. Cabral fought very conservatively. His
confidence grew and he went on to win several titles at the
state, regional, and national level. Cabral’s biggest
accomplishment was winning National Golden Gloves in Mesquite,
Nevada defeating New York in the finals. He is a focused young
man with dedication and heart and his aspirations are to someday
win a world title belt. He is a calculating fighter with a
devastating left hook. He is inspired by his grandfather,
Apolonio Cabral, who tells him to push harder and reach for the
top. World champions Fidel Maldonado and Canelo Alvarez also
inspire him. Cabral is an exciting fighter with a big
following as any fight he is involved in is a guaranteed
barnburner; you don’t want to miss it.
It’s going to be a

November 4, 2011
Antonio
Martinez 1-0-1, says, “It’s going to be a war” when he faces
Edgar Zubia 1-0-1 of Hobbs on December 2nd in a 4-round bout. He
says of his opponent, “I know he’s an experienced and decorated
amateur who comes to fight. It’s going to be an action packed
fight; I’m training hard for this fight and I’m sure he is too.
Come December 2nd, I’ll be ready to bring it!” This could shape
up to be a classic matchup since Martinez and Zubia have a
common opponent, John Herrera of Roswell, and both were very
close fights.
