EXCLUSIVE
INTERVIEW WITH DAVID MARTINEZ
(JUNE 2) On May 25th, Fresquez Productions interviewed David
Martinez exclusively on
www.fresquezproductions.com.
FP.com: David can you give us your thoughts on your upcoming
opponent Bernard Dunne.
DM: He's a good opponent, he's beatable and he's had a few close
encounters but he knew how to pull them off, but this time I
think he took a bigger bite off than what he can chew and I
think they are looking at the wrong fight, they are thinking
that just because I
lost to Tomas Villa that you know, that uh its going to be the
same type of fight, but if your a boxer you know what it's like,
different styles make different fights and his style is nothing
like Tomas Villa's and if he wants to pressure we are prepared
for that.
FP.com: What type of preparation did you do for this
fight?
DM: We did a lot of different things as far as sparring, running
even running the sand hills, we did a bunch of stuff we sparred
with Johnny Tapia and that was pretty cool and uh he gave us a
lot of
inspiration, he gave us some insight, he has actually sparred
with Bernard Dunne so that was pretty cool and my Uncle Ray and
Sergio Chavez have given me a lot of insight as well. Sergio
Chavez led Danny Romero to 2 world titles so that's a big
accomplishment so I got a good following behind me and i'm ready
to go out there
and give it my best.
FP.com: Is there anyone else that helped you prepare for this
fight like sparring partners?
DM: Yeah well we sparred with Vicente Garcia who is an and
coming Welterweight prospect from New Mexico, he actually just
came off a big knockout win, first round knockout and we have
been sparring with him, so the tide is in our direction now and
we just got to carry on with it, as long as the balls rolling
its just going to be that much easier to push it.
FP.com: Who would you say has been your toughest opponent to
date:
DM: You know I am pretty sure thinking right now Tomas Villa,
but um it was a loss for me but it wasn't my toughest fight, my
toughest fight was against a gentlemen by the name of Angel
Marra, he had one of those 50/50 records but for some reason I
had a hard really hard time with him, he was very awkward and
after the fight I learned some stuff off studying the tape and
it actually helped me improve and even though it was my toughest
fight, I just went straight back into the gym and that was the
stuff I had worked on.
FP.com: Any predictions for this fight?
DM: It's gonna be a tough fight, that's my prediction there,4
and another big prediction is that the fans are gonna get their
money's worth. I don't think I have ever had a fight where I
walked out from the ring and fans didn't tell me "Hey that was a
great fight"
or "You did a good job" I just have one of those crowd pleasing
styles that everyone likes and I am excited and ready for this.
FP.com: Is there anyone you would like to thank as we
close out the interview?
DM: I would like to thank Fresquez Productions Inc for
getting me this fight, I would also like to thank Brian Peters
for giving me the opportunity to fight Bernard Dunne, I
understand that they are taking a big risk by fighting me but at
the same time they are stepping up to the plate as well and I
respect that on Bernard's part and on the part of Brian Peters
as well. I would like thank my whole team for supporting me,
Vicente Garcia, a bunch of amateur fighters, because we sparred
with amateurs because they got the
fast hands and they like to throw a lot of punches, so we are
ready to pick up the volume. Everyone that's supported me, the
ones that haven't supported me I understand that your still
wondering what i'm about, but when you see that I go down there
and I give it all I can you'll respect me and you know there is
one other person who i'd like to thank, and if it weren't for
him I'd probably not be as focused, and thats Tom Crego of Crego
Roofing, he has been a big inspiration for me and you know
there's times when I'm not really
focused and he gets me back narrow minded, and back on
the straight edge and you know he's really helped me out a lot.
But i'd like to thank everybody.
FP.com: Alright David, thanks for the interview and good luck on
the 3rd of June at the National Stadium, in Dublin, Ireland.
