(NOV 2) Holly Holm will attempt to make history on December 1,
2006 at the beautiful Isleta Casino and Resort in Albuquerque,
New Mexico. She will take on Tricia Turton for IFBA Junior
Middleweight World Title. Holm is the current WBA Welterweight
World Champion and the IBA Junior Welterweight World Champion.
Holm will attempt to make history and be the only current
female or male to hold legitimate world titles in three
different weight divisions at the same time. Although there have
been a few boxers to accomplish this, few have reigned in all
three divisions.
In Holm’s first world title fight she successfully defeated
Terri Blair. Holm stopped the tough road warrior in her tracks.
Blair is now known for knocking out former World Champion Sumya
Anani twice to become the IBA Champion! Then Holm dismantled
living legend and former World Champion Christy Martin in
September of 2005. After that Holm stated that Martin had been
one of her easiest fights to date. That defeat was followed by
dismantling another World Champion, Mia St. John.
To date, Holm has fought the best female fighters in the world.
She knocked out #1 contender Shadina PennyBaker in February
2006; then on to fight her toughest foe, Angel Martinez in their
third fight, who recently defeated Christy Martin. Holm vs
Martinez was definitely an entertaining fight. Her last fight
was against Jane Couch, the four-time former world champ. Couch
took an extreme amount of punishment but to her credit did not
quit.
Now Holm attempts to move up two weight divisions from her last
defense of her IBA Title to take on #1 contender Tricia Turton
who sports an impressive 8-1 (3KOs) and who’s only loss is to
current WBC Welterweight Champion Mary Joe Sanders. Sanders is
best known for being the daughter of former football great Barry
Sanders. “Sanders is definitely on our goal of fights in which
we would like to see happen in the near future,” stated Holm’s
Promoter Lenny Fresquez.
Holm is already in the history books and plans on leaving a long
legacy in her career. Holm who refuses to take on easy fights
wants to be known for her boxing skills and not her impressive
looks. This will be Holm’s sixth world title bout at Isleta.
There is no doubt Holm is becoming respected world-wide. It is
also getting harder and harder to find fights for Holm, as most
women either simply don’t want to fight her or price themselves
out of the fight. This fight between Holm and Turton will
be shown world wide the following week on the internet. This
will be Holm’s first exposure as the main event on a world-wide
telecast.
In the Semi-Main Event “Hurricane” Hector Munoz 16-1 (10KOs)
will take on his toughest foe to date~ Carlos Madrid 8-2 (2KOs).
They will be fighting ten rounds for the WBC US National Title.
There are six other entertaining fights on the under card.
Tickets start at $25 and can be purchased at Isleta Box Office
