Fresquez Productions Inc. is sad to announce the passing of Former NABA Champion & WBB Champion Andres Fernandez

(DEC 18) Albuquerque, N.M., on Friday December 16, 2005,  Former Champion Andres Fernandez passed away. After an illustrious amateur career representing Mexico in the Pan Am games, winning the Silver Medal. He made his pro debut on November 11, 1995 at the famous Forum in Los Angeles, California.

Unfortunately, Fernandez lost by first round KO, but that did not stop him from trying to accomplish his life long dream of becoming a World Champion.

On December 12, 1997, Fernandez won his first World Title defeating Elias Paulin by a 10th round Knock out to win the WBB World Bantamweight Championship.

After his first fight Fernandez reeled off 13 straight victories all but one coming by way of knock out.

On April 15, 2000, Fernandez added the NABA Super Bantamweight Championship to his collection. The highlight of Fernandez career was when he fought WBA World Champion Clarence “Bones” Adams on HBO Boxing After Dark.

In a fight which was suppose to be an easy fight for World Champion Bones,  Adams Fernandez gave Adams everything he could handle. In the 6th round the Doctor who had never worked a boxing match prematurely stopped the fight on a cut. Giving Adams a win by TKO.  Many felt Fernandez had dominated the fight and was ahead on the score cards.

On June 15, 2001, Fernandez defended his NABA Title against El Paso’s Jorge Reyes in a tough fight. After the fight Fernandez was taken to the hospital where he was diagnosed with a subcutaneous hematoma. Fernandez who became a paraplegic and fought the toughest fight of his life in surviving this injury.

Fernandez is survived by his wife Veronica; his children Andy and Andrea; and his parents Vicente and Maria Luisa Fernandez; and brothers Jorge, Alejandro and Oscar.

A rosary will be recited Monday, December 19, 2005, at French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. Chapel. Mass of Catholic Burial will be Celebrated Tuesday, December 20, 2005, at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Ave., NW. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel Monday, from 6:00 p.m. until Rosary. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Andres Fernandez Fund, 8218 B Louisiana NE, 87113.

May you rest in peace Andres our prayers go out to Andres and his Family.
