Presents "Rise To Power"
March 3, 2006 at La Villita,
Maverick Plaza, in San Antonio, Texas
Gabriel Elizondo VS Benito Abraham
Press Release February 13, 2006
2005 was without a doubt the best year of NABA Flyweight
Champion Gabriel "Kid Kombo" Elizondo's career. Elizondo worked
his way up to top ten contention with his recent win over Cesar
Lopez 18-2 4 KOs (WBO #8, WBA #7, IBF #10) for the NABA
Flyweight title and a WBA #10 ranking at Flyweight. The fight
with Lopez was awarded New Mexico fight of the year on
boxing websites
newmexicoboxing.com and
newmexicosportsnews.com. After the bout with Lopez, Elizondo
said “It was a tough fight,” “He wasn’t 18-1 for no reason."
“The difference is, that I’ve always been willing to fight
anyone. I’ve been given tough fights—no easy ones for me.”
Not even a month before Elizondo's bout with Lopez, Gabriel
defeated contender Alex Baba 21-8-1 16 KOs with an 8 round
unanimous decision at
the Horseshoe Riverdome in Bossier, LA.
A few fights back, Elizondo lost his only fight to date—against
now-WBO World Champion Jhonny Gonzalez. Elizondo was
stopped in the second, but not without flooring Gonzalez in the
opening round.
“I learned my lesson in that fight,” says Elizondo. “He
caught me in the second and I never got my legs back. I
should’ve done what Gonzalez did in the first, when I put him
down—get back up and recover before fighting again. He was
smart—but, hopefully, I’ll get another shot at him in the
future.”
On March 3, 2006 at La Villita, Maverick Plaza, in San Antonio,
Texas, Gabriel will look to stay sharp against the rugged Benito
Abraham 9-9-3 6 KOs Tijuana, MX in the main event, ten rounds
flyweights.
Benito Abraham is a rugged journeyman who always comes to fight.
In 2005 he fought 6 times against nothing but world class
opposition. Abraham drew with the undefeated Manuel Roman as
well as Fransisco Soto. In his last bout he went the distance
with world ranked Oscar Andrade.
San Antonio fans may remember Abraham, who gave local prospect
Raul Martinez all he could handle last June at La Villita.
Gabriel Elizondo is not looking past Abraham, but does have his
sights set on a World Title shot later this year.
SHOW STEALER
Omar Davila 15-5 6 KOs, of San Antonio, Texas will be in for a
tough fight come March 3rd against the once defeated Hector
Munoz 13-1 8 KOs of
Albuquerque, NM. In fact this fight may steal the show. The bout
is an important one for both fighters who will be attempting to
move up the ladder in the Welterweight division and silence
local critics. With only 2 amateur fights under his belt Munoz
got his start in professional boxing by filling rounds in
an exhibition bout on a professional card for a fight that had
fallen out at the last minute. The fight was only an"exhibition
bout" but unfortunately the
"Hurricane" was unable to continue his career as an amateur,
hence the lack of opposition as a professional up to this point.
Now fighting at 140
lbs the popular Munoz went 5-0 in 2005 and had an impressive win
over Jose Luis Noyola 23-3-1 on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights in
Temecula, CA. Hector is trained by Tony Ayala Sr. The bout
between Davila and Munoz is scheduled for 8 rounds in the
Welterweight division.
Taurus Sykes 23-2-1 6 KOs a native of Brooklyn, New York was a
World Ranked Heavyweight Contender before he was derailed by the
heaviest hitter in boxing Samuel Peter last year. Taurus has
solid wins over prospects Friday
Ahunanya, Jovo Pudar, Imamu Mayfield and Talmadge Griffis to
name a few, Sykes was well on his way to fight for the
heavyweight championship of the world.
Sykes has been a professional since 1998 and has worked hard to
get to the point where he is at and is looking forward to
getting his career back on track in 2006. On March 3rd Sykes
will make his return to the ring for the first time since losing
to Samuel Peter. Sykes will face Dominic Jenkins 6-4-1 1
KOs of La Mesa, TX in an 8 round Heavyweight Bout.
Just added to the card is WBA #10 ranked contender Alex "El
Diablo" Becerra of El Paso, TX. Becerra has been in the National
rankings for a few years now and in 2004 won the NABA Super
Flyweight title and has since worked his way up to the top ten
contention.
Gilbert Elizondo 2-0 1 KO of Corpus Christi, TX will face El
Paso, TX's Carlos Madrid 6-0 2 KOs in a Welterweight battle of
undefeated fighters.
Undefeated San Antonio fighter Jorge Martinez 2-0 will face Jose
Martinez 0-2 of Alice Texas in a 4 round Junior Light weight
bout.
Undefeated Featherweight James DuBois 2-0 1 KO of San Antonio
will face Josue Cantera 1-1 of Nueva Rosita, MX in a 4 round
featherweight bout.
