Simply the BEST female
boxer pound-for-pound!
World Champion Holly Holm
Holly Holm has taken
women’s boxing by storm. Holm won her third World Title on
Friday night at the Isleta Casino and Resort just outside
Albuquerque, NM. It Is now her sixth consecutive sell-out at the
3,000 seat arena. Holm added the IFBA Jr. Middleweight Title to
her collection of World Titles. Holm currently is the IBA Jr.
Welterweight World Champion as well as the WBA Welterweight
World Champion. Holm made her pro debut in 2002 and has since
climbed her way up the ladder to be one of the best active
female boxers today. “Holly” has improved the most out of all
our boxers male or female in our stable,” stated her Promoter
Lenny Fresquez of Fresquez Productions Inc.
In Holm’s 11th pro fight she won her first World Title by
defeating current IBA Welterweight Champion Terri Blair. Blair
is known for being a tough road warrior and is best known for
knocking out former World Champion Sumya Anani- not once but
twice! In September of 2005, Holm took what she thought would be
her toughest fight to date, squaring up against women’s boxing
legend and former World Champion Christy Martin. What was
suppose to be a tough fight turned out to be a mismatch as Holm
dominated Martin from start to finish when the fight was over
two judges had it a shut out 100-90 and the judge from Florida
found someway to score two rounds for Martin scoring it 98-92.
Photojournalist, Chris Cozzone (fightnews.com,
newexicoboxing.com, insidewomensboxing.com, Albuquerque Tribune)
said “Holly made the ring legend Martin look amateurish”. Three
months later Holm defeated another ring legend Mia St. John
defending her Women’s IBA Junior Welterweight World Title. Holly
dominated the over matched St. John 100-90 on all three score
cards.
Next up for Holm was number one ranked Shadina Pennybaker who
came in to Holm’s hometown, confident she would knock out Holm.
Unfortunately, the Pittsburg native Pennybaker had a plan that
did not work in her favor, as she was stopped in the seventh
round. Holm was set to fight #1 contender Lisa Holewyne next and
Holewyne even flew into Albuquerque a few days early to promote
the fight before skipping town in the middle of the night
leaving behind her luggage and never was heard from again. The
last minute replacement, Angel Martinez who recently beat
Christy Martin, was brought in on two days notice. Martinez and
Holm had already fought two tough fights. One of the fights
resulted in a draw and the other was a decision for Holm. Holly
later stated that Martinez had been her toughest foe to date,
but again Holm won a unanimous decision.
Next in line for Holm was the five-time World Champion Jane
Couch from England. Once again, Holm shut out Couch 100-90 on
all scorecards. Holm recently won her third World Title by
defeating once beaten Tricia Turton of Seattle, WA, for the
vacant IFBA Junior Middleweight World Title with another shutout
100-90 on two judges scorecards and the judge from Turton’s home
state scored it 99-91 for Holm. So what’s next for the pound for
pound best female boxer? The WBC has order undefeated Mary Jo
Sanders to come to an agreement with the Holm camp before
December 15th or go to purse bid or vacate the title. “We have
not heard back from the Sanders camp, but we look forward to
working out a deal with Sanders. It would be a great fight for
women’s boxing. If a deal is not reached we will proceed to
unify all Titles at 147lb to give Holm the opportunity to be the
UNDISPUTED Women’s Welterweight Champion. We will hopefully
fight for the WBA, IBA, IFBA and the WBC World Titles in the
first quarter of 2007” stated Fresquez.
See for yourself why Holm has been proclaimed pound for pound
the best female fighter in the World. For more information go to

Holm’s fight against Turton will be aired December 6, 2006 on
